For thousands of years, humanity disposed of very limited amounts of information. Whatever understanding people had of the world came from the tribal elders, members of the extended family and other close sources of information.  How things have changed!

I refer you to my previous blog on the mind-boggling advances in the dissemination of information that have occurred since that can be found here.

Today the number of topics on which a modern citizen needs to be informed is growing exponentially. I’ll mention a few examples:

  • UN warning about six tipping points that will have global impact

  • Continuing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East

  • Widely diverging medical opinions on vaccination and other treatments

  • Huge increases in migration with vastly different opinion on how to manage this

  • National elections in some 50 countries in 2024 amidst a divisive political climate.

  • Increasing gaps between the rich and the poor, and we could go on.

So, if you are confused, or feel a little overwhelmed, I would suggest you go to a quiet spot where you will not be disturbed, and ask for guidance from the Infinite Mind, the Great Spirit, divine Love (or what some still call God). It will rarely come immediately, and might even take some time, but it will come. Just trust. This Infinite Mind not only has all the replies, but is infinitely patient, understands your needs, fears and doubts and loves you beyond anything you could start imagining.

The confusion will (maybe slowly) disappear, replaced by the most wonderful and healing, comforting TRUST.

Me, Myself, and I?

A mystic and spiritual teacher of the last century, Joel S. Goldsmith, stated in one of his lectures: “Most people are primarily concerned with themselves, and after themselves, with their family, and after their family with their business or profession; but as they rise in spiritual consciousness, the problems of their community and those of their nation become important to them, and the higher they rise spiritually, the more keenly are they aware of world problems.”

And he suggested that people daily set aside three periods of meditation for the world. And that, of course, includes blessing.

Blessings for the World

the following two blessings are reprinted from the book: 365 Blessings to Heal Myself and the World: Really Living One’s Spirituality in Everyday Life

Blessing For Embracing the Whole World in My Heart

On a mentally, socially and economically shrinking planet, it is not a question of being good, but of survival that we learn to embrace all in our heart. We are all meshed together, nature included, in a web of life that excludes no one and nothing.

May I make my heart broad enough to welcome the whole world! May the understanding that my neighbor is myself enable me to welcome him in my heart, whoever she or he may be, Afghan immigrant or member of a local gang, the drug peddler down the road or the uptight Victorian spinster.

May I embrace all those I meet today as I learn to see all with the eyes of the heart. May I learn to tear off all labels – social, psychological, ethnic – however resistant they may appear, to see only the manifestation of Life’s goodness.

May I embrace the infinite variety of nature’s manifestations – from the tiniest insect to the colossal glacier – understanding that my survival is linked to theirs.

May I lift up all those who are suffering and entrust them to the arms of the Love that embraces and cares for every single being.

Blessing For a Rapid Awakening of World Consciousness

Our world is in dire straits, to say the least. A visionary like Andrew Harvey even speaks of the apocalyptic times we are living. Yes, there are occasional outbursts on the environmental side but at the same time in the same newspaper or news bulletin, the governments of the countries concerned rejoice that the rate of economic growth is expanding, i.e. that we are consuming always more. Time to wake up, friends!

We bless our fellow citizens on this planet that they may awaken to the fact that the house is on fire and that, as a race, we are facing unprecedented challenges to our survival.

May we become really conscious of the accumulation of dangers in key areas of existence: the environment, huge and still growing gaps between the rich and the poor, the risk of tens of millions of citizens in threatened areas migrating to Europe or elsewhere, the survival of numerous species, and so many other threats that require our concerned attention and involvement.

May we have the courage to challenge the powers that be that, faced with the huge difficulties of today’s world, they take more than purely symbolic or dilatory measures and that our mainline media dare face the hard facts rather than continue serving us soporific doses of entertainment and juicy scandals – not exactly the urgent call to action we are in so dire need of.

May we have the deep desire to seek guidance as to what each of us can do as a person co-responsible for the survival of the planet.

And we bless ourselves in our integrity and vision that our concrete commitment to action may be daily more aligned with our words and beliefs.
